An AAMA policy allows those recertifying via continuing education to submit their materials—and application—any time before their expiration date.

In other words, as a CMA (AAMA)® recertificant, you do not need to wait until six months before your expiration date to submit your completed CMA (AAMA) Recertification by Continuing Education Application.

Even better news: you can keep your original expiration date or choose to recertify early!

Keeping Your Certification Expiration Date

If all continuing education requirements are met and the application fee is submitted, the application will be processed, and the new certification period will not begin until the original certification period has ended.

Recertifying Early

If you wish to have your certification period begin immediately upon submitting your application, select “Early Recertification” on the application or notify the Continuing Education Department in writing. If “Early Recertification” is selected, your new certification period will begin on the postmark date or the date in which the recertification application is received by the AAMA Executive Office.

Reference the CMA (AAMA) Recertification by Continuing Education Application for details and the overall process.

Questions about this policy? Contact the AAMA Certification Department via phone (800/228-2262) or email (Certification@aama-ntl.org).

You can learn more about the process of recertifying via continuing education on the “Recertification” webpage. The AAMA website has many additional resources, including suggestions for continuing education to get you started on the path to recertification. And, don’t forget to check out the AAMA e-Learning Center for even more opportunities to further your education and prepare for recertifying your valuable credential.
